Selling to twenty-seven EU countries from a two language site

Club Fanatico makes socks for football fans. The first three went on sale on 5 January 2026. Seven months later there are 21, and the brand ships to all 27 countries in the European Union.

That is fast. Most new apparel brands spend a first year selling to one country and thinking about the second. Club Fanatico opened the whole EU almost straight away. The socks are in shops in Ljubljana, Zagreb, Zadar and Murter, and the Ljubljana collection is on the shelf in the official HK Olimpija shop in Tivoli. For a brand made by fans rather than by a club, that last one is not a small thing.

Look at how the catalogue is built and you see what kind of company this is. It is not organised by product. It is organised by place. Ljubljana. Zagreb. Split. Croatia. Italy. Barcelona. Paris. Seven collections, each made for the people of one city or one country.

The website runs in two languages. Slovenian and English.

That is where the gap sat. A fan in Naples could buy the Italy socks, but everything around them spoke to him in a second language.

For this product that matters more than it would elsewhere. Nobody needs another pair of socks. What sells these is recognition. Someone from Split sees Ništa Kontra Splita and knows exactly what it means and who it is for. Someone in Naples reading the same pitch in English is being sold to. Someone in Naples hearing it in Italian is being spoken to.

The brand's own Slovenian line puts it plainly. Zvestoba ni izbira, je identiteta. Loyalty is not a choice, it is an identity. You cannot sell identity to a person in a language they only partly follow.

Video is where the brand actually lives. It is a fan brand on TikTok and Instagram, and the socks sell in short clips rather than in product photos. Every one of those clips was filmed in Slovenian, and a clip only exists in the language it was filmed in.

Translating terrace slang that has no equivalent

The product names are the hardest translation problem in this whole set of case studies.

Ništa Kontra Splita. Uvik Bili. Purger. Zeleno Beli. Srce Vatreno. Lijepa Naša. Remontada. Tiki Taka. Forza Azzurri.

These are not product descriptions. They are terrace chants, city nicknames and dialect. Some of them are deliberately ungrammatical. Translate them and you do not get a weaker name. You get nothing, because the whole value of the phrase is that it belongs to one group of people and to nobody else.

So they all go into a glossary and never move. They come out of every video exactly as they went in, while the language around them is properly translated. The Italian video says Forza Azzurri the way an Italian says it. The Croatian video says Ništa Kontra Splita the way it is said in Split. The Spanish video keeps Remontada, which in Barcelona means one specific night and cannot be explained in another word.

The disclaimer gets the same care. Club Fanatico is a fan brand and says so on every product. The socks are artistic tributes and are not officially licensed by any club, federation or athlete. That line has to be right in five languages, not roughly right, so it is checked in the translated script before any audio is made.

Lip sync does the rest. The clips are close up and fast, made for a feed, and dubbing that looks like dubbing would break the tone the brand runs on.

A chant only works if you already know it. Translate it and you have not weakened it, you have deleted it.

Launching each collection in its own language with GeckoDub

More than 100 videos now go out in five languages: Slovenian, Croatian, Italian, Spanish and French. All of them come from the same footage.

Line those languages up against the catalogue and they cover it exactly. Ljubljana in Slovenian. Zagreb, Split and Croatia in Croatian. Italy in Italian. Barcelona in Spanish. Paris in French. Every collection now speaks to the city it was made for.

That is the part worth noticing. The website is in two languages. The video is in five. Club Fanatico speaks to a market in its own language before it has built a storefront there. Most brands do it the other way round.

It also changes what a collection launch looks like. Paris landed at the end of May, Barcelona in April, Croatia in February. Each of those is a moment, and a moment does not wait. All five versions now go out together, so a fan in Paris sees the Paris drop in French while it is still a drop.

Seven months old, 21 products, 27 EU markets, and paid video running in five languages. That is not a normal position for a company this size.

Club Fanatico sells belonging. Now it sells it in the language the buyer belongs in.
