How to Translate Videos to Spanish with AI

The question is which Spanish: a Mexican voice travels across Latin America, while Argentina and Spain need their own. Spanish also takes about 20 percent more words than English.

GeckoDub has 9 Spanish options: Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (US), Spanish (Colombia), Spanish (Argentina), Spanish (Uruguay), Spanish (Chile) and Spanish (Peru). So the real question isn't whether to translate into Spanish — it's which Spanish. Getting that wrong is the most common mistake in Spanish-language video ads.

The option you pick sets the voice, and the translated script follows that variant — vosotros and móvil for Spain, ustedes and celular for Latin America. Still check the second-person forms and vocabulary below in the script before the voice is made.

    Spain vs Latin America

    • The accent is unmistakable. European Spanish pronounces c and z as a soft "th"; Latin American Spanish doesn't. Listeners place the speaker within a sentence.
    • Second person differs. Spain uses vosotros for plural "you"; Latin America uses ustedes throughout. Argentina and Uruguay go further with voseo — vos tenés rather than tú tienes.
    • Everyday vocabulary splits — coche in Spain, carro in Mexico and Colombia, auto in Argentina and Chile; móvil vs celular; ordenador vs computadora.

    Which voice to pick

    • One ad for all of Latin America — Spanish (Latin America), a neutral voice and script that is understood everywhere without sounding country-specific. Mexican Spanish, the long-standing standard for regional dubbing, is the other safe choice.
    • Country-level campaigns — use the local voice where there is one. Argentina and Uruguay especially: a Mexican voice in an Argentine ad is spotted instantly, and the script should use voseo (vos tenés) there.
    • Spain — always its own voice, and usually its own creative; Spanish (Spain) writes vosotros and Spain's vocabulary. Different market, different competitors, higher media costs.
    • US Hispanic audiences — the US Spanish voice. US Hispanic Spanish is largely Mexican-influenced and sits comfortably alongside English-language creative.

    Dubbing tips

    • Spanish needs roughly 20% more words than English. Trim in Smart Translation Control instead of letting the voice race the visuals.
    • Spanish is syllable-timed and spoken quickly, so a translated line often fits better than you'd expect — but the hook still needs shortening.
    • usted or tú. DTC, beauty and creator content use tú; financial services and B2B lean usted.
    • Lock product and brand names in your Brand Kit glossary; Spanish speakers rarely expect brand names translated.
    • Start with Mexico and Colombia — large audiences, growing commerce, media costs well below US rates.
