A German version shouldn't need a German shoot

Your ad works in one language. A German version usually means a new creator, a studio session, or subtitles under a voice viewers don't understand.

    The usual way
    • Book a German-speaking creator and shoot again
    • Studio voiceover that doesn't match the mouth
    • Subtitles under a voice viewers don't understand
    • Product names turned into German nouns
    With GeckoDub
    • Dub the footage you have, in the original speaker's voice
    • Optional lip-sync, standard or HQ
    • German speech in the speaker's own voice, with German subtitles if you want them
    • A glossary keeps brand and product names as written

The free test dubs about 15 seconds of your clip, at reduced quality. You can read its script; edits apply on a paid plan, where you can also unlock a test and re-run it on the full video. GeckoDub doesn't publish to ad platforms, and text burned into the picture stays in the original language.

Don't trust AI dubbing in German? Good. Test it.

Upload the clip you think will break it: fast talking, music underneath, a hand near the face. Your 2 free test translations can use HQ lip-sync.

Same clip, product held in front of the mouth. Left: other AI dubbing. Right: GeckoDub.

Lip-sync that holds up in real ads.

Real ads have products, mics and head turns in front of the mouth. That's where most lip-sync breaks. GeckoDub is built for these shots.

We edit your real ad. We don’t generate a new one.

GeckoDub doesn’t create an AI avatar or a new video. It keeps your real footage, your products exactly as they are, and your real speaker with their own voice, cloned. Only the mouth is re-synced to the new language. That’s why it looks natural: it’s still your ad.

What else carries over into German

“Will it sound like a stranger?”

    Voice

The German dub uses a clone of the speaker's own voice. Get the speaker's permission before you clone their voice and face.

“Will product names become German compounds?”

    Glossary

Not if you mark them "do not translate" in the Brand Kit glossary. You can also set a fixed German wording for set phrases.

    About the Brand Kit
    “Sound-off viewing, 9:16?”

    Subtitles and framing

Add animated German subtitles in your brand fonts and colors. The file keeps your resolution and framing.

    Animated subtitles

    One line, localized

German often moves the verb to the end of a clause, so a word-for-word hook lands late. English "you" also hides the choice between du and Sie.

    1
Fix the original transcriptCorrect the source once. Sync carries it into every language, so each translation starts from the right words.
    2
Edit any suggested translationSwap a word or phrase for one that fits your brand better, right in the translated script.
    3
Lock names in your glossaryAdd product names once and they stay the same in every language and every video.

Script editing is part of the paid plans. In the free test you see the same review step, but your edits aren’t applied.

    Word for word
OriginalStop wasting money on cheap leggings.
Dubbed versionHör auf, dein Geld für billige Leggings zu verschwenden. The point, "zu verschwenden" (wasting), comes last.
This line also says du ("dein"). A brand that addresses customers as Sie would need "Hören Sie auf, Ihr Geld für billige Leggings zu verschwenden." The translation aims to keep the register of the original, but English doesn't show it, so check which form the script uses.
Reworked in the script editor (paid plans)
OriginalStop wasting money on cheap leggings.
Dubbed versionBillige Leggings? Rausgeschmissenes Geld."Cheap leggings? Money thrown away."
The point now comes in the first second, and the line is shorter than the word-for-word version. It also needs neither du nor Sie.

German for Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Each option sets the voice. Your 2 free test translations can be one clip into German and German (Austria), so you can hear both voices before you buy media.

    German

For Germany, and a sensible default if you run one version across all three countries. It uses a Germany voice.

    German (Austria)

An Austrian voice, for an Austrian store or an Austrian campaign.

    German (Switzerland)

A voice for German-speaking Switzerland. There is no separate Swiss German dialect option.

    Check spelling and words

Whichever option you pick, check spelling and regional words in the script editor and edit them on a paid plan: Swiss writing uses "ss" where Germany writes "ß", and Austria says "Jänner" for January.

    Liechtenstein, South Tyrol, Luxembourg

There is no separate option for these markets. Pick the nearest option and have a native speaker read the script.

Check these before your German ad goes live

    1

    Prices and dates

German uses a decimal comma (19,99 €) and writes dates as 24.12. Check how prices and dates read in the script before the voice says them.

    2

    Francs for Switzerland

If you also run in Switzerland and the original names a euro price, change it to francs in the Swiss script. Swiss prices are usually written CHF 19.90, with a decimal point.

The translation aims to keep the register of the original. English "you" has no formal form, so check which one the script uses. Switching it means editing the script, which you can do on a paid plan.
