What Video Formats Are Supported for AI Translation?

GeckoDub accepts any standard video file — MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, AVI, MKV and MPEG — up to 500 MB per video. If your phone, camera or editor exports it as a normal video file, it will upload.

The formats you'll actually use

• MP4 (H.264) — the default export from Premiere, CapCut, Canva, Meta Ads Manager and virtually every phone. Use it unless you have a reason not to.
• MOV — what iPhones and Final Cut Pro produce. Uploads fine, but files are noticeably larger than the MP4 equivalent.
• WebM, MKV, AVI, MPEG — all accepted, and usually a sign the file came from a screen recorder or an older editing workflow.

What actually affects the result

The container matters far less than what's inside it:

• Audio clarity beats resolution. Voice cloning learns from the original speaker, so a clean 1080p file with crisp dialogue beats a 4K file with wind, echo or loud background music.
• 1080p is the sweet spot for GoSync lip-sync — enough facial detail to track the mouth, without the weight of a 4K master.
• Upload the aspect ratio you'll publish. Translate the 9:16 cut for Reels and TikTok separately from the 1:1 or 16:9 cut, rather than cropping the dubbed output afterwards.
• Start from the master. Never re-download a published video from a social platform; you inherit its compression and any burnt-in watermark.

If your file is over 500 MB

Re-export rather than trimming quality by hand:

1. Export at 1080p instead of 4K — for social ads nobody sees the difference.
2. Use H.264 or H.265 at roughly 8–12 Mbps.
3. Or run it through HandBrake (free) using the "Fast 1080p30" preset.

For reference, a 60-second 1080p ad is typically 50–100 MB, so the limit only bites on long-form or 4K masters. Your download keeps the resolution and quality of the file you uploaded — translation doesn't re-compress the picture.
