What Is the Maximum Video File Size for AI Translation?

512MB per file. The limit applies to each individual video, not to your total library or your monthly volume, so a bulk upload of twenty files is fine as long as every file clears 512MB on its own. Oversized files are caught before the upload starts, so you are not left waiting on a transfer that fails at the end.

Is 512MB enough?

For marketing video it is generous. Typical sizes:

Ad creatives almost never come close. The files that hit the ceiling are usually long-form 4K exports, ProRes or other intermediate codecs straight out of an editor, or high-bitrate screen recordings.

If your file is too large

Re-exporting is nearly always better than trimming. Compression at these bitrates is visually lossless for social video:

1. Export at 1080p — 4K is rarely useful for a Meta or TikTok placement, and dropping to 1080p typically cuts the file size by around three quarters
2. Use H.264 or H.265 — Both are far more efficient than editing-intermediate codecs like ProRes or DNxHD
3. Target 8-12 Mbps — High quality at a fraction of the size for 1080p
4. Use HandBrake if you do not have an editor open — It is free, cross-platform, and its "Fast 1080p30" preset lands well inside the limit

Protect resolution and bitrate on the speaker's face over everything else. Lip-sync accuracy depends on how clearly the engine can read the mouth, so an aggressively compressed close-up is the one thing worth avoiding.

Does compression hurt the output?

The translation output preserves the quality of what you upload — GeckoDub does not add a compression pass or downscale your video during processing. Whatever quality you feed in is the quality you get back, which is why it is worth re-exporting cleanly from the source rather than re-compressing an already-compressed export twice.
