What Is AI Lip-Sync and How Does It Work?
The model tracks the face, breaks the translated audio into phonemes, and regenerates only the mouth region frame by frame. GoSync 3.0 ships on every plan, and HQ costs double the tokens.
AI lip-sync automatically reshapes a speaker's mouth movements in an existing video so they match a new, translated audio track. Instead of the lips following the original language while the voiceover says something else, the model regenerates the mouth region frame by frame to fit the translated speech — the rest of the frame is left alone.
How AI lip-sync works
- Face detection and tracking — the model locates the speaker's face and maps the mouth region in every frame, following it through head turns and camera movement
- Audio analysis — the translated audio is broken down into phonemes (individual speech sounds) and their exact timing
- Lip generation — new mouth shapes are rendered to match those phonemes while the speaker's expression, jaw movement and head motion are preserved
Why it matters for video ads
Without lip-sync, a translated ad reads as dubbed within the first second, and viewers discount what the speaker says. That matters most for the formats that carry paid social: UGC, testimonials and creator ads, where the whole persuasive weight sits on one person talking to camera. Lip-sync is what keeps a translated version feeling filmed rather than re-voiced.
Lip-sync in GeckoDub
GeckoDub's lip-sync engine is GoSync 3.0, and it is available on every plan rather than gated to a top tier. It handles the situations that break basic lip-sync — a hand, phone or microphone covering the mouth, speakers turning or talking in profile, and scenes with more than one person on camera. Lip-sync draws on your monthly token allowance, and HQ lip-sync costs double the tokens of the standard setting.
For the cleanest result, upload the highest-quality source file you have, keep the speaker's face well lit, and avoid heavy motion blur across the mouth.
