Commercial Use Rights for AI-Translated Content

Owning the render is the easy half. Four things must be true first: documented consent for every face and voice, licences valid in the new markets, cleared music, and platform AI disclosure.

Owning the output is the easy half. With GeckoDub you are the exclusive owner of every localised video you generate — but owning the render says nothing about the rights attached to what you uploaded. Before an AI-dubbed ad goes live commercially, four things need to be true.

This is the one that catches people out. GeckoDub's terms require that you "have obtained and can document such consent for every identifiable person whose likeness or voice is processed through the Service." Cloning a UGC creator's voice into six languages is a use their original agreement almost certainly didn't describe. Get it in writing, name the languages and the channels, and keep the record.

    2. Your talent and footage licences cover the new markets

Creator agreements, stock footage and model releases routinely limit use by territory, channel and time window. A contract written for a US paid-social flight doesn't automatically stretch to a German CTV placement. Translation is exactly the point where those limits start to bite — read the usage clause before you scale, not after.

    3. Your music is cleared where the ad will run

Translation preserves your original background track as it was, licence included. If that licence was regional, it stays regional. Music rights don't travel with the dub.

    4. The platform's AI rules are met

Ad networks increasingly require synthetic or altered media to be disclosed, particularly where a real person appears to speak words they didn't say. Check the current policy for each platform in your media plan, and label where required.

    What GeckoDub's terms don't permit

Ownership doesn't override the acceptable-use rules. You may not use the Service to create deepfake content without the written consent of the people appearing in the footage, to localise content featuring minors, or to generate illegal, hateful or adult material.

    A two-minute pre-flight check

    • Written consent from the speaker, covering these languages and these channels
    • Talent, model and stock licences valid in the new territories
    • Music cleared for every market the ad will run in
    • Platform AI-disclosure requirements met

This is a practical checklist rather than legal advice — for high-stakes campaigns, have counsel read the underlying contracts.
