From one-woman show to international brand — without the localization budget to match
Alpine Nation started in 2019 out of frustration. Founder Sandra couldn't find outdoor clothing for women that was technical, durable, and actually well cut, so she made her own. A single pair of hiking leggings sewn in her living room has since grown into one of Europe's best-known women's outdoor apparel brands.

That growth ran almost entirely on video advertising. UGC-style Meta ads — real women hiking, trail running, and testing gear in genuinely bad weather — drove the majority of customer acquisition. Creators talking to camera about how the Rise Thermo Leggings held up in a Scandinavian winter, or how the APEX Winter Leggings finally solved the "cute but functional" problem: that was the formula, and it worked.
Then it stopped scaling. Alpine Nation was running ads across Europe, but every creative was in English. The product resonated with outdoor women from Austria to Spain and Finland to Croatia — the ads didn't. Outside the English-speaking markets, performance was mediocre, and the fix they needed was the one they couldn't afford.
The Challenge
Alpine Nation's marketing team is two people. Producing new creative variations in a dozen languages was never realistic, and their ads depended on the one element that's hardest to replace: authentic voiceover from real customers describing real experience with the product.
Re-shooting with native speakers per market was out of the question on cost alone. Traditional dubbing studios quoted €400–€800 per video, per language — for a brand testing 10–15 creative variations a month on Meta, that maths never closes.
We knew our ads worked. The messaging resonated, the product spoke for itself. But running English-only creatives in places like France, Italy, or the Nordics meant we were just scraping by. Performance was plateauing. People want to hear their own language — especially in a product category where trust and authenticity matter.

They tried the cheap version first: English audio with translated subtitles. It helped at the margin, but nowhere near enough. Watch-through rates stayed low and acquisition costs stayed high across every non-English European campaign.
The Solution
Alpine Nation found GeckoDub while looking for a way to localize their best-performing ads without studio overhead. What made the difference was the combination — AI voice cloning, lip-sync, and animated subtitles layered onto every dubbed version.
The workflow:
- Upload their best-performing English video ads
- Translate the scripts into their target-market languages — Austrian German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Finnish, Hungarian, Croatian, Romanian, and Slovak
- Review and edit the translations so outdoor-specific terminology read naturally in each language
- Generate dubbed versions with voice cloning and lip-sync, preserving the original creator's voice and energy
- Add animated subtitles to every localized version, so the message carries with sound on or off

Lip-sync turned out to be the piece that mattered most for Meta performance. For viewers with sound on, native-language audio matched to correct mouth movements read as genuinely local rather than dubbed. And because a large share of Meta users scroll muted, the branded animated subtitles meant the silent majority still got the full message. Two channels, one asset.
Upgrading the first batch of videos across all 14 markets took less than a day — work that would previously have meant weeks of coordination with studios and voice actors.
The first time we watched our English UGC ad come back in perfect Italian with lip-sync and animated subtitles, we couldn't believe it. It looked and sounded like the creator had actually recorded it in Italian. And the subtitles didn't look cheap — they matched our brand style and actually made the ads feel more professional.

The Results
Within the first month of swapping English creatives for localized ones on Meta, Alpine Nation went from underperforming campaigns across the continent to profitable localized campaigns in 14 markets: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden.
France was the clearest case. They had run English campaigns there for months with flat results. Swapping in French-dubbed creative lifted ROAS by 3.1x and cut CPA by 54% almost immediately.
Performance metrics (first 60 days)
- ROAS up 2.4x on localized creatives versus English-only ads in the same markets
- CPA down 47% overall across markets including France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain
- CTR up 62% on dubbed ads with animated subtitles versus the previous English versions with basic text subtitles
- Average watch time up 38% with native-language audio and animated on-screen text

Operational metrics
- 14 existing markets upgraded with localized video ads in under a week
- 96% reduction in localization cost versus traditional dubbing quotes
- Under €200 total to localize the first full campaign across all languages, against an estimated €6,000+ through studios
The surprise was which creatives benefited. Several ads that were merely average in English became top performers once localized — a Rise Thermo Leggings product demo that had plateaued in English broke out in Swedish and Polish, with hook rates above anything in the original English library.
Animated subtitles mattered most in Finland and Hungary, where audiences are used to subtitled content. In those markets, dubbed ads with animated subtitles beat dubbed-only versions by a further 23% on click-through rate.
What's Next
Alpine Nation now localizes every Meta ad that clears a performance threshold in its home market before rolling it out across Europe. Localization moved from a project to a step in the creative workflow.
Before GeckoDub, trying to improve our ROAS in non-English markets felt like an uphill battle. Now, localization is just a Tuesday afternoon task. We upload, translate, add animated subtitles, export, and swap out the creatives. And the subtitles alone have transformed how our ads perform on Meta, even in markets where we were already running dubbed audio.
— Manca, Alpine Nation marketing team
The team is preparing their summer collection campaign now, planning to launch localized video ads with animated subtitles across all 14 markets on day one.
