How Accurate Is AI Video Translation?

Good enough for paid ads in the major languages, not for legal or medical copy. Most errors start upstream in the transcript, so clean audio and a glossary fix more than anything else.

Accurate enough to run as paid advertising in the major languages — and not accurate enough to publish unreviewed where a wrong word carries legal or medical consequences. AI handles meaning, tone and register well on conversational content. Where it still slips is wordplay, brand terminology, and anything the transcription mishears in the first place.

    Accuracy by content type

    • UGC and conversational scripts — very good. Informal speech, slang and delivery come through naturally in the major languages
    • Marketing copy — good, review recommended. Hooks and CTAs lean on wordplay and cultural reference, which is exactly what literal translation flattens
    • Technical content — good, with a glossary. Product and industry terms need to be defined once, or they'll be translated inconsistently across videos
    • Legal and medical — not suitable for AI-only translation. These need a certified human translator

    Where errors actually come from

Most "translation errors" aren't translation errors. The chain runs transcription → translation → voice, and a mistake upstream propagates:

    • Mishearing — accents, fast delivery or loud music corrupt the transcript before translation begins
    • Idioms taken literally — the sentence is correct and the ad is dead
    • Brand terms — product names get helpfully translated unless you say otherwise
    • Length expansion — German and Spanish run longer than English, so a tight script gets rushed to fit

    Five things that improve accuracy

    1. Start with clean audio — the single highest-leverage fix, because everything downstream depends on it
    2. Define brand terms in the Custom Glossary — once, then permanently
    3. Review in Smart Translation Control — read the script before rendering, not after
    4. Check the hook and the CTA specifically — they carry most of the performance and most of the risk
    5. Leave a little room in the source script — pauses give expanding languages somewhere to go

The standard worth holding it to

For video ads the bar isn't literary fidelity, it's whether the translated ad performs. In the major languages a reviewed AI translation clears that bar consistently — which is why the review step, not the translation step, is where your time goes.
